I used to go to Sekiguchi, for Tosai, twice each season. Once in January and once on this trip. Last year he stopped doing that and only starts releasing Tosai mid to late March. I would usually get different grades on each trip and this trip would usually have two grades.

Luckily, even though I missed a couple of weeks , there were still a lot of Tosai in three different grades. This video is the process of getting to the mid grade.

I decided to take back roads back to Nagaoka to see something new, I had the time, and it's always fun.

The area around Sekiguchi is a ski resort area so the route took me up into the mountains.

Once I got through the mountains and hit this point I realized I had forgotten to ask Sekiguchi to sign the Koi flag. I did not go back as I realized I will see him at the International Junior Koi Show so I will get it then. I had forgotten Marudo on the first day too so I will see him there as well.

Then I realized it may be the one spot so many breeders will be all at once. I wonder how many can go on the flag?

I met with Shigeyoshi Tanaka, Marujyu Koi Farm, at the All American Koi Show in Vegas last month because I had not been to his farm in many, many years. I wanted to come visit him and see what he might have available for Tosai. Since my last visit he has built a new green house close to where Marudo is. My appointment this morning was at Marujyu Koi Farm.

At the beginning of this video he is showing us his Jumbo Tosai that he has for and event at the end of the month. We then move to another section of the green house with three tanks of available Tosai. These are the tanks I picked from.

In this second video we moved to another part of the greenhouse and I heard a familiar "hissing" sound so I started my video again. It seems Shigeyoshi is using RDF's. A few breeders have started using them and he said he is really happy with them.

The third video shows the seining of one of the Tosai ponds. I didn't get many Tosai but I got a nice mix that included some Kinsui...

Kinsui are metallic Shusui and I think I got two or three of them. He showed us the parent fish which is actually quite nice and then sheen is subtle.
