The first stop was Hosokai Koi Farm. He iOS probably the most remote of all the breeders I visit as he is up in the hills away from every one in Wakatochi. It takes almost as long to get there as it does to get to Sekiguchi Koi Farm and Sekiguchi is twice the distance.

This time of year the snow is usually gone, the hills are brown and it is kind of drab. The temps are in the high 50's and low 60's so winter is pretty much over. During the fall it is so green that you don't even feel like it is the same place. I remember my first trip here in April. I was literally taken back by how empty it felt with out the green grasses and plants. It was a little depressing actually. Anyway, when I arrived at Hosokai Koi farm there was some snow left, which was nice, and Hosokai's dog was there waiting.

This dog is another story. I have known this dog for 10 years and it has never let me pet it. It doesn't let anyone near unless it is Masaru, Masaru's wife or his son. Today was a good day. I got to pet the dog.

I don't have pictures to back up my claim but it did happen...

I love visiting Hosokai Koi Farm as Masaru breeds a lot of varieties and you just never know what you are going to be offered. This applies for the Fall as well as Tosai season. Last year I got a group of Asagi Tosai, some of which I am still growing, and they are doing very well.

In the video Masaru is asking me about my trip and how long I am here as he heard I was going to be Judging at the International Junior Koi Show. He also brought up the All American Koi Show as most of the breeders are talking about it. He wanted to know what I thought. I told him I am hoping that it does become the American version of the All Japan Koi Show and that the first show held a lot of potential. I also mentioned that, because of the size of the US, it was definitely a bigger challenge as transporting Koi is much more difficult. TBH, it os one of the reasons I had a wait and see attitude about the show.

In April of 2019 I brought a Koi flag to Japan and had it signed by all of the breeders I visited. The flag was then auctioned off at that Louisville Koi Show to raise money for the club. I again have a Koi flag with me and will be doing the same thing. The flag will be auctioned off at the Louisville Koi show next month.

The first breeder to sign the flag was Masaru Hosokai. I did visit Marudo yesterday and forgot to ask him so I will be going back to get his autograph. Make sure you come to the Louisville show to get your chance to bid on this.

After finishing up at Hosokai Koi Farm I had some time and Masaru asked me if I wanted to go to lunch. Being that I was hungry, with no other plans, I gladly accepted. he took me to a new place that served curry in an unusual way. They bring you a big lump of rice on a plate, and a metal gravy boat with the curry sauce in it. You pour on as needed. I now have a new place I can visit for lunch.

Once inside I was given a choice of what to pick. I picked the tank with the highest priced Tosai in this building.
