Ojiya/Isawa/Hiroshima Bound PSKoi Spring 2024 Trip

Post by Russell Peters »

I am heading to Japan a little earlier than normal this time as I am attending the ZNA Carolina at the end of April. I will also only be in Japan for three weeks but still have 17 or 18 breeders I am hoping to visit as well as Judging at the International Junior Koi Show. It is going to be a busy trip.

Hi Kelly, just responding to this to let people know I answered this question, and others, on Messenger. It was during my Shinkansen ride from Tokyo to Nagaoka. I just don't want anyone thinking I ignored this.

On this trip I decided to go from Chicago to Haneda but I normally do Chicago to Narita. I did this because I thought it would be easier as I could then stay at a hotel in Tokyo, two miles from Haneda airport, the first night and be able to get to sleep sooner. When I fly to Narita I then have to take two trains, usually three more hours of travel, before I get to my hotel.
I didn't work out so well as Haneda seemed to be much busier than Narita.
It took over an hour to get through Customs and Immigration, the airport was much more crowded, and the Currency Exchange Banks were closed. Once I got to the hotel it was about the same time as it would have been had I gone to Narita. The catch is then I would still have to take the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagaoka the next morning. I had to take a local train to get to the Shinkansen so I still had two trains to deal with. It sounded good during the planning stages.
The good news is I am in Nagaoka and the Koi hunting started with Marudo.

These Sanke might be a little rough around the edges but I think the potential is quite good. They are 11" to 12". I picked up 17 Sanke and 3 Kohaku.

Just as we were finishing up the boss came in to visit. He asked about the All American Koi Show in Vegas and Yuki filled him in on the judges, Koi and the event location. Seems like interest is building in Japan.

I spent my first night in Nagaoka last night, I am 15 hours ahead of the East Coast, and if you aren't familiar where Nagaoka is here you go.

If you have ever wondered how big all of Japan is compared too the East Coast of the US here you go...I average about 3,000 miles of driving while I am in Japan for my buying trips.

I had a really busy day today and had to get up at 6am to make sure I got everything in, including my morning coffee. Finding my car in the morning is never an issue because all of Japan parks unlike me. Can you spot my car?
