Isa Farm Visit 10-2016

We arrived at the Isa facility around 10am as they started the harvest very, very early in the morning. I would have had to miss my morning Starbucks:roll eyes:. When we arrived there was one truck and a group of people milling around but nothing happening. I think we waited 30 to 40 minutes before they started to unload. It was hard to believe there were 300 55cm to 65cm Nisai Showa in those two tanks on the truck.

Gill Disease and cautionary advice for the use of Sterilizing Chemicals

Gill Disease and cautionary advice for the use of Sterilizing Chemicals In Japan during the period February through March pond water temperature gradually rises from about 10 to 13. As the seasonal change takes place and the water temperature rises, fish become eager to consume more food. As fish crave, their owners tend to feed their fish more to satisfy the craving. Unfortunately, when fed during this period of seasonal transition fish develop the illness, which in our vernacular known as a “cold”. The most visually striking sign of catching…

The Annual Cycle of Nishikigoi

Indianapolis, IN Pond Build with a Blue Eco RDF

I leave Thursday 7/7/16 for Indianapolis to start a new pond build. This pond is going to be a monolithic concrete pour as well but it will be formed a little bit differently. The pond dimensions are roughly 14′ x 28′ but, on the middle of the front long edge of the pond, there is going to be a radius viewing edge that takes you into the pond a little bit. Because of this I will have to make my wooden forms out of 2 x 4’s and plywood in…

I leave on October 7th and don’t come back until November 6th. When I arrive, I will be by myself, I will head to Ojiya for about 8 days. My first full day in Ojiya will be October 9th. I am arriving early to be able to go to more…

Pond Build With First Blue Eco Drum At PSKOI

I am in the process of building a new concrete system and will be using the Blue Eco RDF. You can’t beat the flow rate and efficiency. I really am looking forward to this low energy install and the lack of electronics in the RDF just makes it that much better. It has been very cold and rainy but it looks like the weather will cooperate for the next two weeks so, I got Kiwi and started digging.
